Traveling My State & Beyond!

The last few months have been filled with adventures around my home state of Missouri as I've been going to and fro with groups of young ladies from my church as well as my Girl Scout troop. As I continue to work on my current projects for the rebel badge group, I'm very excited to say that I have officially finished off two more badges: Camper and Outdoor Cook! I would say six camp outs over the course of 4 months would more than suffice to help with making that a reality!

Now, on to my next journey and adventure: the world traveler badge. One thing I've noted is that, because the book is written with the lens of the British Isles, there are some pieces that feel a bit more intimidating to me (or need some Americanized translations). One piece of that is trying to travel abroad as part of the world traveler badge. Probably not quite as cost prohibitive for someone on that side of the world as it would be here, but in many ways I feel like each state in the US is a bit like its own country. Not entirely, of course, but enough that it takes some planning to make a larger trip happen, especially if you're going multiple states over. Still, there are a few places overseas I would love to travel to someday which will absolutely make my list!

In the spirit of sharing and trying to keep a blog going, here is my list of top 10 places I'd love to visit someday!

  1. London - Pax Lodge, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, so much history. Especially with Aaron and I both having heritage from England, London would be towards the top of my list for sure!
  2. Ireland - Again, pretty high up for heritage reasons, but being able to see some gorgeous scenery and get away with my husband sounds like so much fun!
  3. Iceland - I've seen some beautiful photos of northern lights and glaciers and beautiful places in Iceland that I think would be really cool to see in person someday.
  4. Our Chalet in Switzerland - fully a Scouting dream, I really want to visit this international WAGGGS center someday!
  5. Alaska - I think going on an Alaskan cruise with a stop in Canada for good measure would be so much fun for Aaron and I, especially once things get a little more manageable with covid
  6. African Savannah - Gonna be honest, I really want to sleep in a place where I can potentially wake up to a giraffe sneaking a peek at me through a window.
  7. San Francisco - this is on my list because I know Aaron would love to make it back to his mission area someday, and I'd love to go on that adventure with him.
  8. Spain - gotta love an adventure where I can put our Spanish skills to good use!
  9. Tokyo - I think we'd have a lot of fun exploring and just having adventures as we walk around a big, bright, busy city like Tokyo, as well as exploring nearby areas and beyond in Japan.
  10. Wales - I have a friend who should be moving there in the next few years (waiting for immigration paperwork to come through after getting married in May 2022) and I want to go and see her new home and how things are shaping up for her and her husband!

And, because I want to get two birds with one stone, here are the health and visa requirements for these places:

1-4: Passport required. No vaccinations required.
5: No passport required. No vaccinations required.
6: Passport required. Must have covid-19 vaccination certificate showing fully vaccinated. Yellow fever, malaria type C.
7: No passport required. No vaccinations required.
8: Passport required. Covid-19 vaccination certificate showing fully vaccinated at least 14 days and at most 270 days before arrival OR fully vaccinated and received a booster dose.
9: Passport required. Negative covid-19 test result, at most 72 hours before departure from the first embarkation point, and must be in English. Must specify that the test is based on "nasopharyngeal swab" or "saliva" or "nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swab" a "nasal swab" may also be accepted depending on test type.
10: Passport required. No vaccinations required.
