Critic Badge Reviews

It's been far too long since I've written, but I found my misplaced books and realized: I've seen so many things this summer that would qualify for this badge! Many of these shows were performed at a local theater that my friends often perform at, and I love how many opportunities there are in my own community! Agatha Christie's Mousetrap I attended this show in May of 2024, going to see a good friend perform. Having seen the movie See How They Run, I had an idea of the plot twist that might be coming but was still surprised overall. The cast and crew did a wonderful job putting on the performance and their hard work was extremely evident. If I could change anything about the show, I probably would have told the actors to not go for an entirely British accent - there were a number who struggled and it would have felt less distracting if everyone had gone with a "posh" sound rather than trying to be explicitly English - however, it is entirely possible that th...

World Traveler Wrap Up

I haven't been the best at blogging, but I am excited that I am just about done with my world traveler badge! Over the last month, I have been brushing up on my Spanish skills and reviewing basic phrases. In addition, over the summer last year I handled planning a trip to Reno to visit family with my husband. Planning trips is something that comes naturally to me and scratches a mental itch for me overall, so it was an easy item to square away for this badge. In addition to these items, and the previous blog post I made with health requirements and a list of places I'd love to visit someday, I helped my Scout Troop to research holidays around the world as an early nod to Thinking Day for our Christmas celebration this year. The girls researched, with assistance, different countries and presented the information for other troops in our local area. Being able to look at differences with them from our own shared experience in America compared to other countries was a lot of fun a...

Traveling My State & Beyond!

The last few months have been filled with adventures around my home state of Missouri as I've been going to and fro with groups of young ladies from my church as well as my Girl Scout troop. As I continue to work on my current projects for the rebel badge group, I'm very excited to say that I have officially finished off two more badges: Camper and Outdoor Cook! I would say six camp outs over the course of 4 months would more than suffice to help with making that a reality! Now, on to my next journey and adventure: the world traveler badge. One thing I've noted is that, because the book is written with the lens of the British Isles, there are some pieces that feel a bit more intimidating to me (or need some Americanized translations). One piece of that is trying to travel abroad as part of the world traveler badge. Probably not quite as cost prohibitive for someone on that side of the world as it would be here, but in many ways I feel like each state in the US is a bit lik...

The Importance of Being Earnest: Critic Evaluation

I recently went to a local production of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest . My very good friend performed in it, playing the part of Cecily, and I wanted to support her. I figured that going and writing my own review of it would be just an added benefit. I wish my husband and I had chosen different seats for the performance, as they were very comfortable but because it was a loveseat in the back, we ended up sinking down quite a bit below the chair line for the seats in front of us. Despite that fact, I really enjoyed the small twists that were put into the play. Some of the coincidences that fell together so neatly at the end were very nice to watch unfold. I also enjoyed how the actors pulled everything together and played off of one another throughout.  It is interesting to watch something written for audiences over a century ago and seeing some of our own modern interpretations on them. In the same vein of thought, it was also interesting to observe that some...

A Journey Unfolds...

Hello, and welcome to what I hope is the start of a long chain of writing and documenting my jump into a new activity in my life. Rebel Badge Book I recently purchased a book titled Rebel Badge Book   by Charly Lester. This book is like a guiding or scouting program, but updated and adjusted for adults. As soon as I saw the advertisement on Facebook, I was interested and excited to sign myself up for this adventure. Since I'm "across the pond" from the author and most of the individuals signed up on the Facebook group, I have had quite a bit of fun learning some of the subtle differences in verbiage and using Google to help me make ends meet. My book came in on July 8th, just in time for me to take it with me on a camp out for my Girl Scout troop to briefly look at during down time. I wasn't able to fully dive into it until I got home on Sunday. I decided to start my adventure by purchasing a few of the optional challenge badges that have been shared in the Rebel Bad...
