The Importance of Being Earnest: Critic Evaluation

I recently went to a local production of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest. My very good friend performed in it, playing the part of Cecily, and I wanted to support her. I figured that going and writing my own review of it would be just an added benefit.

I wish my husband and I had chosen different seats for the performance, as they were very comfortable but because it was a loveseat in the back, we ended up sinking down quite a bit below the chair line for the seats in front of us. Despite that fact, I really enjoyed the small twists that were put into the play. Some of the coincidences that fell together so neatly at the end were very nice to watch unfold. I also enjoyed how the actors pulled everything together and played off of one another throughout.

It is interesting to watch something written for audiences over a century ago and seeing some of our own modern interpretations on them. In the same vein of thought, it was also interesting to observe that some of the nuances of polite society haven't really changed that drastically since the time in which the play was released.

Overall, I would definitely recommend to others in my area that they go and see this performance - and have already done so on my personal Facebook page. I told my friend after watching her that it might even be fun to audition for something with her in the future if it comes up!
